Many New Options for Deer Hunters and Wing Shooters

This is the time of year that new models of rifles and shotguns start appearing on dealers gun displays. Following are some examples of the rifles that the shooting sportsman can expect to see in the coming months.

The Hell’s Canyon Long Range model is new in the X-Bolt lineup and features a Cerakote burnt-bronze finish on all exposed metal surfaces. The composite stock has textured gripping surfaces, a palm swell and is finished in A-TACS AU Camo with Dura-Touch Armor Coating. The heavy sporter contour barrel is fluted. The Model 1500 bolt-action rifle is now offered in KUIU Vias and Verde camouflage, which is ideal for a variety of hunting terrains. The metalwork is finished in gunmetal gray Cerakote finish while the barreled action is pillar-bedded in a Hogue Overmold stock. The rifle is available in most popular calibers with a 20-inch lightweight contour barrel, 22-inch standard contour or a 24-inch magnum contour barrel. Additional features include a 2-stage H.A.C.T trigger, 3-position safety and sling swivel studs. SRP: $782 to $ $811. See


One of the most popular Marlin rifles, the 1894 Cowboy, has returned to the lineup for 2017. Available in .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and .45 Colt, these 100-percent American made rifles feature a straight grip, American black walnut stock, bolt and receiver machined from solid steel, and a polished 20-inch octagonal barrel with Marble sights. SRP: $1,041. A standard 1894 is available with a round barrel for $789. Also returning to the lineup is the .444 Marlin built on the 1895 action. There are three additions to the popular Patriot line. The Patriot Predator comes with a synthetic, dark earth stock with a 22-inch barrel and threaded muzzle. The Predator is available in .223, .243, .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor. SRP: $441. The Patriot Synthetic and Super Bantam are now available in .223. SRP for both is $396. For those desiring an upgraded version of the Patriot, Mossberg is offering the Patriot Revere with high-grade walnut stock, rosewood grip and fore end caps, and an upgraded blued finish. See

The Remington 700 AWR is built for durability and accuracy under the toughest conditions.


The Remington 700 AWR (American Wilderness Rifle) is a big-game rifle built for accuracy and durability. Built to be weather resistant and tough, the AWR has a stainless-steel barreled action, durable Ceracote finish, 5R rifling and a durable and rigid stock. It is available in .308, .270, 7mm Magnum and .300 Magnum. SRP: $1,150. The popular model 783 is now available with a walnut stock and in .308, .270, .30/06 and 7mm Magnum. SRP: $499. See

The Ruger 10-22 Takedown Lite has a cold hammer-forged barrel fitted inside an aluminum alloy barrel sleeve.


The new 10-22 Takedown Lite features a precision-rifled, cold hammer-forged fluted barrel for weight reduction with a threaded muzzle fitted with a thread protector. Easy takedown enables quick separation of the barrel from the action for ease of transportation and storage. It also has the Ruger Modular Stock System with a low comb and standard length of pull. It also ships with an additional high comb and standard length of pull module. Combination scope base adapter for both Weaver-style and .22 tip-off scope mounts are included as well as a convenient carry case.

The XPR Hunter Mountain Country Range bolt action features a dipped Mossy Oak Mountain Country Range composite stock with an Inflex Technology Recoil Pad. Additional features include a button rifled free-floating barrel, a MOA trigger system, a detachable box magazine, a 2-position thumb safety and Perma-Cote matte blued finish. The rifle will be available in all popular cartridges from .243 to .338 Magnum. SRP: $599.99. See

Wing shooters and target shooters are not left out of new models to choose from in 2017. Here are some to look for on dealers gun rack.


The 12-gauge Super Black Eagle 3 is available in Mossy Oak Bottom Land, Realtree Max-5, Gore Optifade and black synthetic. It is chambered for 2 3/4-, 3- and 3 1/2-inch shells and features an oversize bolt handle, bolt release and safety. It comes with a carbon fiber rib, five chokes and either a 26- or 28-inch barrel. SRP: $1,999 for camo, $1,899 for black. See


The A5 and Maxus Wicked Wing shotguns feature receivers and barrels coated in a Cerakote burnt bronze camouflage finish, which is mud, and water resistant. Standard features include Briley extended bolt handles, banded external choke tubes, oversized bolt releases and a Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades composite stock. The A5 and Maxus are both available in 3- and 3 1/2-inch models. A5 Wicked Wing SRP: $1,979.99. Maxus Wicked Wing SRP: $1,739.99. The Cynergy Composite Ultimate Turkey over-and-under is available in 12 gauge, Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo, 3 1/2-inch chamber and either 24- or 26-inch barrels. The Ultimate Turkey 12 gauge has a Marble Arms Bullseye rear sight, a fiber-optic front sight and a short Picatinny rail for red-dot optics. There are five Invector-Plus choke tubes, including the Extended Ultimate Turkey and Spreader tubes. SRP: $2,339.99. See



The CZ Swamp Magnum over-and-under is designed for the serious waterfowler and is the only over-and-under in the CZ line that has an automatic safety that engages every time the action is opened, a feature appreciated in the duck blind. The new SXP turkey pump shotgun is available in either 12 or 20 gauge and features a composite stock and forearm finished in a matte black finish. The black alloy receiver has Truglo fiber-optic adjustable sights and is drilled and tapped for scope bases.
