Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report for August 7 – 14, 2025

This week on the Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report, host Butch Thierry is on the road with Joe Baya, joining Captain CT Meyer of Obsession Outdoors for an action-packed bowfishing trip along the Kentucky-Indiana line. Rather than a traditional report from the Gulf, Butch and Joe shares the full experience of invasive carp bowfishing, a high-adrenaline freshwater adventure you’ll want to try for yourself.

Conditions Recap

The crew launched from the Ohio River, where conditions were muddy with less-than-ideal clarity. Despite the turbidity, bowfishing for invasive silver and bighead carp was productive. Fluctuating water levels, driven by upstream generating dams, have created heavy current, but this didn’t slow down the action. Even in low clarity, fish were jumping aggressively—making for non-stop shooting opportunities.

Air temps were comfortably in the low 60s at night, much cooler and less humid than coastal Florida, making for an ideal outdoor adventure.

Bowfishing with Obsession Outdoors: A Freshwater Adventure

Joe and Butch joined Captain CT Meyer of Obsession Outdoors for a two-night bowfishing trip targeting invasive silver and bighead carp. From jumping “popcorn-style” carp to stalking bigheads in silence, the trip delivered an unforgettable mix of high-octane shooting and low-key hunting-style tactics.

Conservation With a Shot of Adrenaline

Asian carp are an invasive species threatening native fisheries across the Ohio, Cumberland, and Tennessee River systems. Their filter-feeding habits deprive native fish—like paddlefish, bass, and musky—of essential plankton. CT and fellow bowfishermen are playing a critical role in population control, and commercial processors are beginning to convert carp into pet food and fertilizer.

Beyond the environmental impact, the sport is simply fun. With hundreds of shots fired in a single night, it’s an action-packed combination of hunting and fishing that immerses anglers in the moment.
