MLB Jake Peavy to Sell Southern Falls Plantation | Great Days Outdoors

National Land Realty just listed new hunting land for sale in Alabama

Jake Peavy, the Mobile, Alabama area native who is the only starting pitcher to win back to back World Series Championships, with two different teams, in two different leagues, has some hunting land for sale in Alabama located in the Alabama Black Belt. Ok, maybe that was a little bit of a bland description. This property has to be toured to be believed, and recently, I did just that with Clint Flowers, Partner and Accredited Land Consultant for National Land Realty. Known for the multiple waterfalls that give the property its name, Southern Falls Plantation is truly a one of a kind tract. Come along as I recap my visit, or take the Land Tour 360, by clicking right here, and see the property from every angle.

Southern Falls Alabama Hunting Land for sale

The Basics

Where to begin? Let’s start with the land. The 2410 +/- property purchased by Jake Peavy in 2008 adjoins 2240+/- acres of leased ground creating a 4650+/- acre tract that is nearest the town of Catherine in Wilcox, County Alabama. It is truly an outdoor paradise and the diversity in soil, habitat, topography, and timber will leave any hunter or angler drooling.

For the Hunters

Jake Peavy’s Southern Falls Plantation of Wilcox, County Alabama is one of the most unique tracts of hunting land for sale in Alabama currently on the market with National Land Realty. There are uplands, thinned and burned, that create a perfect habitat for turkeys, quail, and fawns. Bottomlands along the Alabama River (Dannelly Reservoir) give access to resident and migratory waterfowl, small game, and the type of fertile soils that produce the trophy class Whitetail Deer hunting the Alabama Black Belt is known for.

Excellent stands of various timber proliferate throughout the landscape. Giant White Oak, Shagbark Hickory, Swamp Chestnut and numerous other hardwoods make up the bottoms. Beautiful stands of all types of southern pines, including Longleaf, meander through the uplands. There are miles upon miles of professionally maintained roads and trails that connect over 50 wildlife food plots and 28 shooting houses, some big enough to hunt an entire baseball team it seemed.  We traveled nearly 40 miles of these roads on an early April Afternoon and lost count of the amount of wildlife we saw. The deer herd there has been trophy managed, with bucks harvested by bow only for 4+ years.

“With over 57,900 square feet spread across 9 separate structures, of which over 40,000 square feet is heated and cooled, there is something for every desire.”

For the Anglers

Southern Falls Plantation did not disappoint. Beautiful bluffs overlook over 3000 feet of waterfront along Lake Dannelly on the Alabama River. There are over 33 acres of fishing lakes stocked with bream, Tiger, F1, and Florida Bass. All of these give access to some of the finest freshwater fishing available.

There aren’t many pieces of hunting land for sale in Alabama that can rival this tract, but the accommodations of Southern Falls are what make the property truly one-of-a-kind. With over 57,900 square feet spread across 9 separate structures, of which over 40,000 square feet is heated and cooled, there is something for every desire. Exquisite woodwork, large stone fireplaces, commercial kitchens, and sleeping accommodations for 75 mean the grounds are capable of hosting weddings, family reunions, corporate retreats, or a bunch of really serious (or not so serious) hunters and anglers.

What’s Not to Love

Southern Falls Plantation in the Alabama Blackbelt, where they say “It’s not a place to be, but a way to be” is well put. This property, located in Wilcox, County Alabama, is like no other and it certainly embodies the claim. Would you like to see what we saw?
